i’m on my single speed at 6:20am, lost in the maze of hills that is travis country west looking for the “shortcut” past the big hill on southwest parkway.

lesson learned: there are no shortcuts in life

so i made the first ride into work today. i was going to ride the bus into the city and then head over to the office. i missed the bus and if i waited for the next one it would have put me in downtown at about 7:45. i didn’t really feel like inconveniencing all the young professional’s driving and talking on their cell phones so i thought “i can do do this, i’m badowski” so yada yada yada as i was looking for a big ditch or small cliff i could ride off to end it all i realized i was almost to the office.

lesson learned: single speeds are for suckers, there is nothing cool about them

as expected my legs warmed up at around mile 10 on the last 50 feet into my parking garage. imagine my lack of shock when i found that the new trendyhippie.com bike lockup’s that the city of austin requires these days doesn’t exactly fit every bike. i didn’t sweat at all the whole ride, but was drenched by the time i got the bike locked up in the humid, lowest level, no air flow, in the corner of the garage area.

overall it was a good ride. not too hard. i will be riding the bus home though. and will lock up the bike on the cables behind my parking spot tomorrow.
